  • unfortunately your laptop is designed for SATA drives the spare hdd you have is an IDE or PATA hard drive. you can get converters for full sized PC's but they are not available for laptops due to size restrictions
  • As per my suggestion, King is right.
  • King is right, points for him. You CAN buy an external enclosure for the HD and use it as a very portable external drive. Or probably even boot off of it considering how new the laptop is. You won't want to do that though, better off buying a replacement HD to stick in the HP's extra HD bay.
