Your body produces it's own alchohol. So when you drink it on a regular basis the system that creates your own alchohol shuts down. That's why hardcore alchoholics get sick when they don't drink. Because their body is no longer capable of sustaining itself. Psychological? I think it starts as a way to escape reality. Then your body gets hooked on it you have to drink it just to feel normal.

Alcoholism is a disease and has been recognized as such by the AMA for over 50 yrs. It's kind of like an allergy. When the substance comes into contact with the allergic body, an abnormality occurs. That abnormality is the inability to stop drinking on will power alone.
