  • There was an efficient paper database of the German population which included religious status. When they invaded Holland they found an even more comprehensive set of files on the dutch population, and the dutch Jews were entirely 'transported'. It is now illegal for a similar database to be built in Germany. The UK governmnent is desperately trying to build tracking databases of the British population. (after all, if they have nothing to hide, they have nothing to fear!) For some reason they are very happy to hand that info over to other countries too ... especially the USA.

  • The Third Reich targeted all non-Aryans for concentration camps. Back in the 1920s through 40s, a lot of goverment and academic effort was put into classifying people into races. Here's a good article on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racial_policy_of_Nazi_Germany
  • They went through jewish synogogue records as well as measurements for nose length and eye and skin colour.
