I am planning to buy a new car in California. But I may need to move permanently to Arizona within the next 3-4 weeks. Is it very expensive (or a lot of hassle) to transfer the registration to Arizona?

I lived in Az for over 32 years. It has some of the least expensive DMV fees of most states I have been involved with.

Just make sure you do it as soon as you move here. They don't take kindly to out-of-state tags on residents.

Transferring title and registration is a simple process. The only problem with buying a car in California and then immediately transferring your title and registration to Arizona is that you will be paying for the same year's registration twice. Since both California and Arizona base part of their registration fee upon the value of the vehicle (similar to a sales tax), this could get expensive with a new car.
