it's best to stick to the gerbil fed you can buy at any pet store, and just give nuts, seeds and the occasional bunch of clean grass and leaves as treats. giving fruits and vegetables can foul up their digestive systems causing diarrhea. go to your local library and look for the books on Gerbils in the pet books section (Dewey decimal 636.1 to 637.3), you will find all kinds of interesting and useful information there.

I give mine, oat. The dry one with no powder. Dry potato biscuits with no chocolate whatsoever. Those strands of uncooked noodles. When it's still hard. They love those. They can pretty much chew anything. So I figured even hard dog biscuits with that milk smell were fine. Afterall, they shredded the mouth/entrace of my wooden house when they found it too cramp. Yogurt chips. Washed carrots. Tomato, cabbage or lettuce. Small pieces like once every 2 weeks. Too much moist of these causes diahorrea. ----------------------------- Then again, I just read you can't feed cabbage cause they wouldn't be able to rid the gas by farting or burp.
