When you are in church and the geezers with the baskets come by asking for money, how much do you usually put in?

They are called Ushers not geezers and they don't come by asking for money. Tithes is 10% of your weekly earnings which is paid once per week otherwise it is just a general offering and you put in whatever you want to. On a side note: In our church our Ushers do not bring around collection baskets for offering because the scripture tells us to bring our offering before god. so therefore we have a basket set at the center of the alter and when it is offering time people get up and bring forth their offering and put it in the basket. +4 for the second part of your question though. It is a very good question.

In my Church we take seriously the Savior's council with respect to giving offerings (http://scriptures.lds.org/en/matt/6/1-4). As such we don't have people going through the congregation to collect the offerings. We place our offerings in envelopes and hand them to the leaders when we get the chance. Thus, what we give is between the Lord, the Church, and us as individuals. In keeping with this, I will not say here how much I actually give.
