I don't think good is ever bad. I use that phrase a lot.

There's not enough "good people" around these days, so when I use that term, I use it carefully and with a good deal of thought. Good people are special, and deserve to be commended----it's an honor, not an insult. Similarly, people should be more discriminating when using the terms "gentlemen" and "ladies", and apply them only when it's deserved. :)

My mom used it to describe someone's family. "She's good people." It just means you come from good stock.
