couldnt tell exactly about the sects, but as to why...masturbation generally goes hand-in-hand(pun intended) with impure thoughts, which is said(dont know where) to be as bad as acting on those thoughts

The Bible, not different denominations, is where to look for the answers. The Bible tells us to avoid unclean sexual practices. Here are two of many Scriptures that may help: "You heard it was said you must not commit adultery. But I say to you that everyone that keeps on looking at a woman so as to have a passian for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart." Matthew 5:26.27 also, "Deaden, therefore your body members...as respects to fornication, uncleanness, sexual appetite, hurtful desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry." Colossians 3:5 If a person keeps having these thoughts it may lead to immoral desires and immoral actions. No one is perfect but the Bible helps us to adhere to God's perfect standards.

Trying to control perfectly normal and natural behaviors has always been one of the favorite pastimes of religions. Sexual pleasure is taboo in many Christian sects - though certainly not all.

Catholicism is one. Judeo-Christian tradition has taught for thousands of years: 1. Single people should be celibate. 2. Married people should be faithful to each other (adultery is wrong). The Catholic Church recognizes the power of sex when it teaches, "Sexuality affects all aspects of the human person in the unity of his body and soul." Chastity means the successful integration of sexuality within the person. A chaste person's body and spirit lives in unity and opposes any behavior that would impair that unity. Masturbation is contrary to the human dignity of the person, anyone about whom the person has lustful thoughts, and the dignity of human sexuality. For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 2352 and following: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt3sect2chpt2art6.htm#2352 With love in Christ.

Why does it matter? It's none of the Church's or anyone else's business. It most definitely is NOT 'unclean." the folks that tout that point of view are simply repressed, and we all know the damage repressed sexuality can cause. Ignore any "religious" viewpoints on this. It's not a religious matter. Go have some fun.
