  • It's a radio transmitter box that connects to your modem and your computers. If your computers (desktop (perhaps with an add on USB adaptor) and notebook) can receive wireless then you don't need cables to connect to the router to get your internet feed. You still need a cable to go from the modem to the router. Most routers have sockets so that you can use cables instead of wireless to connect some computers without wireless capability.
  • But IF your pc has wireless capability and you are close to the wifi source you have no need of a router.
