  • I live in Illinois where it's mandatory also. Did the driver have insurance under his own name? I had a friend who had this happen to them and somehow the borrowers ins had to pay for it. I would ask and than go from there. Also if it was a mutual accident as they say it is where is the info from the other driver? even if you don't report it you should get info just in case. I am only mentioning this so you can be ready for court;) It's not your fault he wrecked it and if you don't use it to get around you are not required to have ins (except when you let ppl borrow it) I think you have probably learned your leason..lol..Gool luck!:)
