  • Yes. But don't get me started on Scientology, missy! :o)
  • Yes. Yes I do. That's totally insane. How can you NOT make noise?
  • what is Scientolgy anyways?
  • The practice you describe is real. Hubbard's thinking was that entering into the world among all that screaming is detrimental to a human's introduction to the world. And you're right -- if you didn't know Hubbard's gender when you read of the practice, you could probably guess he was a male.
  • His reasoning is that child birth is an extremely traumatic experience for the child already, so the less noise the more calm it would be for the child who is coming into the world. I have really no opinion on the matter. How you birth your child is a personal choice, and I think however you choose to do it, as long as the child is okay and safe, it is fine by me.
  • Isn't it strange in itself that a religion is founded by a SCIENCE FICTION WRITER and is taken seriously?
  • The only way I see possible to be quiet during child birth is with meds which I believe are also prohibited. The way I look at it what ever gets them into this world safe and healthy is the way to go. Besides maybe they should also prohibit these ppl not to procreate so they don't spread this nonsense...
  • It's NOT a requirement. It's recommended but not required. The reason it's *recommended* is that Hubbard (founder fo Dianetics and Scn) opined that when someone is experiencing pain, that a portion of his or her mind is recording any sensory input and that the less "word content" the better.
  • Well, I'd say he was no different then J. Smith who started the Mormons.
  • It's not true. It's only recommended. It's not enforced or required. It's a very short paragraph in Dianetics the Modern Science of Mental Health. All it says is that it's a good idea to do it if possible. Tom Cruise was extremely public about wanting his child to be born that way and that's when people started talking about it a lot.
