Your problem is the type of blank DVD you are using. The DRC8312 is an old recorder that isn't compatible with cheaply manufactured disks, and some multi-speed disks. I've found that Verbatim brand disks work VERY well with the DRC8312. Specifically I've had 100% good luck with Verbatim 8x 4.7 GB DVD+R Digital Movie Spindle blank media. They are gaudy looking, but they always work in my recorder. They're available on Amazon--BUY THEM!!!! They work great. RCA originally shipped this recorder with Verbatim disks.
On a side note, a spindle of 25 Memorex DVD+R disks purchased in 2008 worked fine with this recorder, but an identical spindle purchased in 2009 won't work period--I had leftover '08 disks that worked on the same day that the '09 disks wouldn't. Memorex changed some manufacturing specification and those disks are no longer compatible.

Sorry this is not an answer, but I have the same problem with mine, and in fact it will not release the last DVD I copied to. I have used it only a few times and cannot get the DVD out.
Ihave a sonydvd with no sound.It worked with the surroundsound but now not direct to the tv.Is there a setting to send the sound to the tv?

My tv keeps having a flashing blue screen and it's flashes between the game and a blue screen what can I do? It's kind of old though.

We have a Disney Princess dvd vhs combo. The vhs/vcr works fine but the dvd play says "incorrect disc". What is wrong?

Philips HTS3565D-37 will not play certain DVD's. I have upgraded the software, the discs are coded for the correct region. Any ideas why?
