Can I use the normal cheap power steering fluid in my ML320 instead of the more expensive Mercedes brand?

Check the cheaper fluid container for these words "meets or exceeds all manufacturers warranty requirements". If you see that on the label, you should be fine. Cost shouldn't really be a problem here, as a rule you shouldn't need to add p.s. fluid more than once a year or so. If you're having to add more frequently, have it checked for a leak.

most mercedes such as the ml320 have a rack and pinion system, using generic fluids will rot the seals and require you to replace the entire rack
