Just to clarify: we've talked about it before, but neither of us has actually come out and asked the other. We've been together for two years but known each other for over six years now.

Well firstly: GOOD LUCK! I really hope it goes well for you. Maybe you could just...try a casual approach? How I don't quite know :) Sorry that wasn't much help. Just wanted to wish you all the best really.

How about just talking from your heart. I don't know if this is how u feel bout him. But u can tell him how ur heart beats a little faster when he's near you and when he's not around it's like your dead inside. stuff like that. If you want i can give u an orginal poem that you can maybe read to him.

why dont u go to the place u met and do it

*deep breath* Big day, huh? :) Maybe you could go out to dinner then head to the beach to look at the stars. Tell him you love him "to the moon and back" and would love if he would be with you forever. And offer the ring! That would be MY style, anyways... Good luck! :D

1) Make him dinner (does a girl who gender bends the rules of the game make dinner?)*; 2) set the box next to his plate; 3) inside the box will be a teeny weeny note that says: "will you?" Alternative: take him out to dinner and when he isn't looking or goes to the bathroom, do the same. *Don't get me wrong. I'm a lawyer lady and I looooooove all gender bending behavior.

I wouldn't do anything hokey. Just present it to him in a simple fashion and speak from your heart. That certainly should be good enough I would think.

Bake the ring into a cup cake and when he finds it yell "WE HAVE A WINNER!" Hummmmm, if he's a gobbler type of eater, tungsten might break teeth. They used to do the same thing in socials for the door prize. But I think it was a marble or bean or something in the cake. Are you a "PRIZE"? Why of course you are. Be WON me lassie.

Go ahead and be cheesy! Think of something the two of you enjoy doing together, and then think of a way to incorporate your proposal into that in a surprise sort of way.

Congratulations in advance! More power to you for being the one to step up. I'm so excited for you! My BF likes to watch football (I know it's not FB season [US Football]) so maybe I would have him watch the game and then go get him a beer and put the ring on top or something. Does he like something that's equivalent? Do you guys have a favorite thing to do together, like games or something? Take him out for a date and give it to him there. It's hard to be romantic in a "guy" way! Good luck!!! Or, you could take him out for a steak dinner and have the waiter bring the ring out on his plate!

Thanks to all who answered! I went the nerd-love route and sent him a Flawless Diamond Solitaire on World of Warcraft in his mail (since we are both admitted WoW addicts), and the description on the item reads "Will you marry me?" When he got home from work I told him to check his mail in game. When he did and turned around I had a real ring waiting for him and asked him if he would marry me (no, I didn't kneel, but my knees were shaking). He had that "deer in oncoming headlights" look for about a solid minute straight, but he said yes! And now today we're going to go get an engagement ring for me.
