Generally, three days as a cooling off-type thing.

For first offense, usually 3 days Second, 7 days or more Beyond that, it depends on the situation and the offense.

Back in the old days when I was a CL, I typically did either 1 or 7 days. Some of the other CLs did longer amounts of time. I wasn't that mean. Once, I PBed someone for a mere single day and took so much flak for it, I nearly resigned right there. Even the person in question agreed that he should have been PBed.

I believe it depends on which offense it is and the severity of the offense.

It's usually 3 days for first timers or if the people just need a 'back off, slow down and take a breather' kind of penalty. If they keep doing it it is longer, maybe 1-2 weeks. For some very naughty people it's 1-3 months. And after the Staff takes a look at it they may decide to nuke the account if necessary. Spammers who are here only to advertise, get no warning and they are PB for 7-30 days until they can have their account nuked.

It could last from one day or three days, or two weeks, or two months, or several years. It depends on the situation. For grave offenses, I think a sentence of two weeks is usually imposed on the erring user.

It's like real life punishment. The length of the time depends on the crime.
