Many more than would probably admit it. Dr King urged his listeners to demand dignity for themselves, and also to offer dignity to others. Racism, and prejudice strips peoples of dignity. His value set is applicable to all of humanity, thus any thinking human would be hard pressed to not feel attracted to them. Fear and Ignorance are the underlying causes of predjudice and racism.

I think it is well past time for racism to end, as Dr. King had dreamed. In order for those dreams to reach fruition, we must open our minds, throw out our prejudices, and understand other cultures.

of course he was speaking to all of us (I'm white). he didn't get a Federal holiday because he's African-American--to give African-Americans a holiday--he did so because he was a brilliant scholar in humanity, a landmark in the history of human rights, and a great orator. his place in history is because his concerns are ultimately universal
