Why are duplicate questions not allowed? i see no harm in having of the same question.

well, I've unknowingly asked a duplicate question before... so, to prevent doing so... I just search the question i want to ask first and if it pops up i just read the answers. asking duplicate questions is kinda not fair to the person who asked it first.... those points rightfully belong to the first Aber to ask the question. -----> I'd rather my question be flagged as a duplicate than angry fellow abers taking hard earned points away from me for duplicating!

If you like the question, you always have the option to post an ANSWER to the question, which pops it up again before people's attention - and then others might answer it as well.
