At least they'd probably be benevolent. We're their customers, but we're also their commodity-- they sell us to advertisers. If they don't keep us happy, they can't sell us.

Of course, if they formally took over, they could just tax us straight and not bother with advertisers.

Give them time. Maybe they'll merge someday. Oh wait...that was Microsoft-Yahoo...well, maybe they'll all form one big technological superpower.
