Erm.. since when does the end of a calender mean the end of the world... my calander ends every year with no apocolyptic tendencies - whats so different about the mayan calender?

It just ends in a different day, that's all. People like to give end-of-year significance to dates; to start freshly a new period. Mayan, chinese, european, it does not matter, it's arbitrary.

The Mayan calendar has been around for hundreds of years. The difference is it predicted the end of the world.....100s of years in the future from when it was developed. It isn't an annual calendar like the ones we use. It is a most interesting culture and phenomenon. If you haven't done so already...Google Mayan Calendar.
