  • No one wants to be poor
  • No one wants to be "poor"...if you're born in the wrong country...if your family is afflicted with mental illness/drug addiction/devastating health problems...chances are your road in life, as long as it lasts, will not be easy. Those who have never had to go hungry or watch their children dying of illness or disease have no idea what it takes to survive when the deck is stacked against you...a great deal of luck..some great connections..maybe being born to "wealth"..and suddenly you are the arbiter of good and bad, lazy and hardworking..you judge who is worthy..of course, it always involves you being among the worthy and "them" being unworthy. :(
  • Let's first get over the relativity issue. Some people consider themselves rich, others might call them poor, so to that extent, poor or rich is a state of mind. As to economic situations, some people don't have the physical or mental capacity to work either at decent-paying jobs or, in some cases, at any job. Some are mentally handicapped or have accepted a set of values that most of us considered skewed. Then there are those who suffer misfortune pretty-much beyond their control...such as losing a job, sometimes coupled with other personal tragedies like health issues and so forth. Of course you might well ask, why would rich people want to get richer?
  • People don't really want to be poor, but people that don't have alot of money tend to appreciate things more.
  • I'm pretty sure that the majority of people don't, but there are some that do... it's to prove that life without wealth is possible, because the system is so unfair that they want to opt-out and live life with freedom. Or perhaps they don't need much money and don't see themselves as poor, but are viewed as such by the rich.
  • In my mind poor is a state of mind. Yes maybe, someone may not be as financially sound as others but they may not view themselves as poor. You also assume that people who are poor want to be poor and often they don't but because of their geographical location, medical, physical, social and mental well-being they may not be able to support themselves financially the same way other people may. You also have to take into consideration that cost of living varies from state to state and country to country. One countries poor population may be another countries rich population. We have to take into considerations a person's state of mind if a person is truly optimitic they may view themselves as being rich because of the non-materialistic things in their lives such as love, health and family.
  • Some people get overwhelmed by the responsibility of handling money. they can't pay their bills on time, they can't build good credit, the spend all rather than save some. I don't think they want to be poor, but they sabotage themselves subconsciosly so they don't have to face possibly failing at becoming 'comfortable'
  • I don't think anyone wants to be poor. Trust me, it sucks. I don't want to be poor, but I don't want to be rich either.
  • poor people do not want to be poor, i dont have any money but i have so much in my life, a wonderful fiance love, happiness, i have what i want right now. if i had the choice to live this life or be rich and blow it all like britney spears id choose my life hands down. rich people take too much for granted, and yes i would like some additional money but im happy and i have more then what others have
  • Some people lack the initiative to dedicate themselves to the very hard and unfair fight to better their lives. That may not be "wanting" to be poor, but it is also not "wanting" to work to better their lives. Others are just born screwed or get screwed by the system. Keep in mind that there has always been "the poor" and there will always be "the poor" unless a truly equitable communist society succeeds. No ifs ands or buts about it.
  • I think there are many levels of the words "poor" and "rich". To truly answer your question, one would have to know your definitions. In my opinion, they don't necessarily have to do with money, but more with a state of mind. Of course, you can be rich with wealth, but you can also be rich with friends, family, love, knowledge, and experience. You don't have to choose money as your way of gaining riches. A poor person to me, would be someone who has little to none of these things. I think when you factor in all the ways a person's life can be rich, then you will find the numbers of "poor people" go way down. Can you even think of someone who isn't rich in at least two or more of the areas mentioned? If they aren't, and want to remain in their same situation, I would guess that fear and anxiety and insecurity would have a lot to do with why people don't go after the things they want.
  • As for being financially poor, I don't know that most people who are poor want to be that way, but they may lack the education, knowledge or means to get out from under the strain of no finances. I do know that a rather large portion of the people in our area live paycheck to paycheck, so they would be considered poor. And there are many more who, if they missed just two or three paychecks, would be in dire straits. Not because of desire t be poor, but due to circumstances beyond their control.
  • it depends on how the rich look at the poor just because they don't have what others have does'nt mean the're poor ,you can be rich in many ways like the friends you have an the people that love you materal thing are'nt always things that make you rich.
  • To get more of that Government Cheese because you'd have to be crazy to want to stay poor. There's no good in the hood. We all want to live in a safe & nice area.
  • Why do stupid people choose to be stupid?
  • It's more of a "poverty mentality" that people have to try to overcome before they can get out of debt. It's not easy, but it works. :)
  • Tibetan and San Franciscan Monks are people, and these people choose to be poor because they do not possess the same materialistic values that other people possess; this said, some regular poor folks may fall to a certain degree into a category similar to that of the Monks.
  • Most people do not actually want to be poor. But there are some who try to follow Buddha in the wrong way. Buddha was born a prince and at the time of his birth in 640 B.C., he was the richest most powerful person in the world. he had several large palaces, treasure vaults filled with diamonds and rubies and gold, a vast army with hundreds of thousands of elephants and millions of soldiers ... yet he abandoned all of it to wander barefoot and penniless in search of "THE TRUTH" ... there are many who feel that abandoning possessions, like Buddha did, is needed to reach enlightenment ... they are mistaken, it is only necessary to understand that objects are just objects, and as long as we control them and do not allow them to control us, then enlightenment is still possible without poverty. Others just feel that greed is much more wrong than poverty and prefer to be poor rather than be consumed by greed. Some Christians take the lesson of LENT a little too far and give up too much and just trust in their God to guide their lives, without the things they have given up for Lent. Some are just trapped by circumstances and are unable to be anything but poor.
  • they don't!
  • I dunno, maybe you should ask one.
  • I dont think poor people want to be poor. Do you?
  • wow...i wasn't aware that poor people actually...enjoyed it...hmmmmmm
  • No one wants to poor. But I believe so many factors prevent the poor from getting out of their situation.
  • Some people like being poor. Like Drew Barrymore's dad. She buys him houses all the time and he lets them go cos he likes being homeless. I'm sorta messed up like that. If I won the lottery I would still live in my trailer and drive a cheap car held together with duct tape. If anything I would buy more tape for it than repairs. I would still wear the crappy clothes I have now. Pretty much the only thing that would change is I would actually have money and I would also have no more lack of girlfriend problems. But stuff in my control I wouldn't change much, if at all.
  • The blind appear to be handicapped. But Almighty gives them some extra sensitivity in some other perception organ like ear or touch. Have you not observed this? They live close to nature and enjoy all that is part of it. Their minds breed on what is natural and less on what is artificial. They are probably the nature's ideal for what is living. They are homely with what they are. Property separates people and poverty joins people. People of poverty enjoy more close personal relationships which are highly heartening. Their mutual understanding as a group is incomparable. It is we who are poor in such relationships.
  • who ever said they wanted to be poor? a lot of them can't help it because they don't have an education to get a good job or they have a disability or something else is holding them back from having mass amounts of money. i don't think anyone really WANTS to be poor.
  • Money isn't everything to everyone. Perhaps they're lives are "rich" in other ways?
  • Because it is "wrong" to be rich. Basically they've got bad blueprints. Someone taught them wrong. Everything is better with money, as long as you don't use money as your crutch for things like happiness.
  • I think that some people are poor because they are LAZY. They know that education helps, but they won't study. They know looking for a better work is better, but they won't do it. They know that looking around, working hard, or trying to better themselves would help, but they don't do it because they are lazy. Changing is hard. Getting out of poverty needs change. Winning good money is hard. Some people are not that intelligent, so it's harder for them. So it's just easier and quick to be lazy. There are also hard working people, but they cannot figure out a way to earn more, so it also might be they are poor because they are not that intelligent. There are also a lot of other reasons, but this are some...
  • Because it is "wrong" to be rich. But i don't think they have to be POOR. they can be a normal money-earning person.
  • they don't they just don't have any money
  • IS THAT A JOKE???
  • mmm... they dont !!
  • I do not believe anyone wishes to be poor.
  • 98% of poor people aren't that way out of choice. They were never well educated to start with, which is mostly what causes being poor.
  • Rejection of materialism
  • usually they dont. They just dont want jobs that pay less then unemployment checks
