In olden times,wearing a ring on the little finger was considered a symbol of status. Traditionally,many kings wore their signet rings on their small finger. Many doctors,lawyers,and actors today wear a ring on the small finger. I may also add that if you are a working man,the little finger of either hand is less likely to take damage then the ring finger. (I study symbolics and mythology,so forgive me for making such a long reply.)
