Dead dinosaurs.

Well the definition of organic is a molecule with both carbon and hydrogen. So petroleum is most definitely organic.
-
Do you know how Petroleum was formed kidofthekingdom?
-
wow...thats been debated for centuries...its definitely organic...but is it dinosaurs and plants or some sort of ooze from the interior...beyond my abilities i have belief though...i believe it was dinosaurs and plant material
-
the "planet's sub interior"? i'm not even sure if that makes sense. i suppose i would say petroleum, in and of itself, is organic though. that doesn't make it green energy though...

This is a topic that has been debated for quite a while. However, to date, there is no solid evidence that petroleum forms from anything other than biological matter. If significant amounts of it did form from Earth's interior, then we would expect to find it in settings other than sedimentary rocks. We do not.

I dont really know very much. I presume everything on and in the planet came from volcanic activity. The cooling of molten rock becomes different material in different stages. Add sunshine and other cosmic rays and new stuff gets created. Add magnetism, the forces that make gravity and more new stuff gets created. I believe life itself came from several different materials and forces working together. Find something unexplainable and either it doesnt exist or its a product of our psyche. Petroleum is just one of many products found beneath the earth. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abiogenic_petroleum_origin ... this site explains an alternative to fossil fuel. and because petroleum and natural gas seems to be just about everywhere on the planet, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_natural_gas_fields suggests to me that it is a product of the mantel and not fossil fuel. There are two views: abiogenic and biogenic. It could be that the core of our planet is made up of materials that produce life. Look at Saturn how different it is than earth. And Uranus. And Mars. It could be that because of the makeup of the core of this planet, it just produces life and all that goes with it. We humans are a product of the earth's core...generated from the specific element combinations that make up the planet.

You don't find petroleum on Mars, so it's probably organic.
