  • Hey there jiggaflex, This is my first answerso go easy on me... I have repaired several XBOX 360's and starting t move into PS3's as well as they are staring to go wrong too. On the Xbox there is a problem with the Heatsinks and fans This causes the RROD (Red Ring Of Death), with initia problems being - you guessed it - Blotchy images and wrong colours. Now I don't know if this s possible on PS3 but on the Xbox's you have to remove the heatsink, reapply thermal paste (because by this point the stuff is actually cooked ad therefor no good) and then PURPOSELY alow the Xbox to overheat by disconnecting the fan. THe reason for this last and drastic step is because some of the solder has, apparently, melted and resolidified into poor connection. Therefore the overheat allows this to be corrected. Don't quote me on the reasoning of the last step but trust me, on the XBOX it is necessary. Now in your case with your PS3 I would say that unles there are better suggestion that come forward in the near future from those who repair PS3's regularly you should do the following: 1) open up your PS3. 2) remove the heatsinks from the GPU and the CPU. 3) using a thermal paste applicator scrape off any "cooked on" paste, being careful not to damage the chips. 4) appl new thermal paste. Now I would recommend something like 'Arctic Silver',or another silver based HIGH QUALITY product of similar nature. 5) put it all back together. Now I will say at this point that I can't gauruntee that this will do it as this as mainly guesswork at themoment - I haven't yet had this problem with mine or another PS3. Please cehck these steps wit any other replies that come on this Page. Hope this works.
