1) Nobody ever told them it wasn't fashionable to button the top button. 2) They figure if there is a button and a matching buttonhole, there must be a reason!

Why is it so necessary to pick on people who do that? It's not wrong for them to button the top button of their shirts. Personally, I think that people should be more concerned with their own attitudes instead of the way other people dress.

Not just nerds do it... if you look at it the other way round, they are being rebellious because if it meant to be open, they subvert that by closing it.

For me it's not a question of 'why do nerds button the top button?' but 'why do people who button the top button get called nerds?'

Who said that shirt is meant to be worn with an open collar? What do you think a button on the collar is designed for? I think a man in fully buttoned shirt looks much tidy and a woman looks sexy. Tight collar just emphasizes her beautiful neck.
