The only way I know of that happening is if the ball hits the net in which case player 2 would win the point. However, if that happens during the first serve then nobody wins the point and the server has to serve again. If that happened again on the second serve attempt then the receiving player would get the point.

This would involve some sort of strange spin on the ball for it to come back to the first player's court. I believe that since Player 2 failed to make contact/return it, point goes to player 1. If the ball touches the net, and bounces back to the first player's side without making any contact with the other side of the court, point goes to player 2.

Player 1 hits the ball over the net and it lands in Player 2's court. The ball then bounces back over the net (likely due to backspin) without Player 2 touching it and lands in Player 1's court. If this is the situation, then the point is won by Player 1. The reason is as follows: if a ball lands in a player's court, unless that player makes contact with the ball before the second bounce he loses the point. This is true even if the ball bounces back over the net - that player would need to reach over the net (without touching it) and make contact with the ball before it hits the ground. And FYI, the above situation is the only one in which it's legal to hit a ball that's on the other side of the net.

The official answer to this question is here -> http://www.usta.com/USTA/Global/Improve_Your_Game/Archive/Player_to_Player/Rules/Reaching_over_the_net.aspx The dialog on the usta site is clear. As Evaric mentioned above: Player 1 gets the point because Player 2 failed to make a good return.

Player 1 wins the point. Once the ball contacts player 2's side, it is player 2's responsibility to physically play the ball back to player 1's courtside. I'm afraid the results of spins placed on the ball by player 1, or some mere action of the wind, do not constitute successful 'play' on the ball by player 2, no matter where the ball should land.
