  • he let him self be sacrificed. he knew they were comming to get him and he did not run. thats why he had the last supper.
  • Who are the "we" that say this? Most Christians do, but not everyone is one. I'm not, and I can pretty much guess by your screen name and question that you aren't, either. You certainly didn't ask this in the Christianity category. At any rate, the view is generally that Yahweh sacrificed His Son. In the Trinitarian view, the Father and the Son are One, so Jesus did sacrifice Himself. He sacrificed His life. The differentiation made here is that He didn't have to die, but chose to do so. The belief is that He could have saved Himself from this fate at any time, but did not. Of course, I don't believe that, as I'm not Christian, but this is why Christians say that Jesus was a sacrifice. In essence, Yahweh required the blood sacrifice of a perfect, sinless human to pay for sin. Jesus was a blood sacrifice to cover the sins of humanity (well, those who believe in Him, at any rate).
  • Because it was Gods plan that his son who was free of all sin would be the savior of the world, that who so ever would believe in him would not perish but have ever lasting life..it was Gods plan that he would be falsely accused and crucified..none of us are worthy of heaven on our on merit,we all sin,Jesus was the only on who didn't
  • isnt suicide like a major sin? soundlike suicide to me, but I think along a logical plane, erm versus say...fictional plane.
  • He was "sacrificed" by God, his father.
  • He didn't sacrifice himself.... God (his father) sacrificed him... For us!!
  • Some use the term "sacrifice" because He allowed Himself to die in order to take upon Himself the sins of the world. This is why John the baptist called Him the "lamb of God", in reference to the animal the Jews would sacrifice, whose blood was sprinkled on their doorposts, and whose flesh was eaten during passover.
  • not all things that are sacrificed are done so by themselves, a lot of sacrifices are done by others for " the greater good" of some belief system , usually horribly misguided, I have never understood why Jesus should have been sacrificed for the rest of humanity, I just not in the zone to get that one !!
  • The book of Hebrews in the Old Testament says he was sacrificed for our sins. As has been stated in other answers, he knew what was happening. He laid down his life, as his says in John. He laid down his life, only to take it up again. He willingly took on the punishment we all deserve. Yes, he also received the death penalty from the Roman Government, as prodded on by Jewish officials. Would you say that a soldier jumping on a grenade committed suicide? In a way, I guess you could. But suicide is usually the term used for killing oneself out of complete despair. The soldier, generally speaking, is sacrificing himself to save others around him. This is what Jesus did- he willingly jumped "in the line of fire" for us.
  • He went knowingly to his own death. Sounds like a martyr to me.
  • Nathan Expolsion..thats fine if you dont belive and you are entitled to your own opinion, but have some respect for other people and their beliefs..and,what IF,by some chance you are wrong and God IS real.(I assume you wouldnt call Him names if you thought he might be real).
