Why is belief in a god the default, baseline, assumed to be obvious ideal?

Good question. I think it's simply because that is what society has deemed "normal" and it's what is expected. If only our ancestors would've simply been OK with not having answers to everything instead of coming up with this god concept to supposedly answer anything and everything.

most likely because this site is mostly used by those from the western societies and those are typically christian and jewish cultures
