  • The vast majority of his books take place in the state of Maine, although usually in fictional towns, having little to do with the rest of New England. Although most of his myth is centered in Maine, I think there's some slight exceptions, but I honestly don't recall. There's also the Darktower series which takes place in a completely fictional world.

  • There is a bit that happens in Colorado as well. Stephen seems to keep most of his stuff particularly the earlier stuff in New England especially Maine because he like most intelligent writers writes the frame of the story in a place he knows well.
  • I think he is just more comfortable describing, and giving detail to things he knows well. It would be a lot easier to describe my backyard, then it would be to describe yours, for example. He has a way of drawing people into the setting, and keeping them there for a while.
  • Not totally but mostly; in real and fictional towns. If you read all the Dark Tower and the bulk of the rest of his work, there's a reason given for this. Of course the practical reason is because he's from Maine.
