.. because even with all the proof you would dismiss and still not believe until you've decided to by "FAITH".

I'm soooo going to lose points for this, but if you think about it, the reason is obvious: Since early human civilization, people have exploited the beliefs of others to make money (read Canterbury Tales for some really good examples of this). In ancient times, religions and gods were created to explain the inexplicable, which over the millenia has been replaced with science and the age of Reason. A religion that expects people to operate purely on faith is convenient for those who wish to exploit peoples desperation and beliefs. If Oral Roberts says "God wants you to send me money, he told me so", it requires no proof whatsoever that God really told him that. People believe in the messengers almost as easily as they believe in the basic tenets of their faith.

Because that is the nature of faith and to quote God as portrayed in Douglas Adams Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy "without faith I am nothing". Many would argue there is proof of their own religion but these arguments tend to be equally applicable to all religions and so proves little (i.e. using the teleological argument to prove christianity over islam is no good as the same argument could be made for islam). And there are just as many (probably more) that will argue the other way.

I don't know about most religions, but I do know why my God requires faith. First of all, I'm not talking about "blind faith". Blind faith is truly absent of any proof. It's based on pure trust (and naivety). I believe God requires faith and doesn't proove anything absolutely because this life is designed to work that way. It's a test. It's a single step in a much larger plan that continues for eternity. It's a probationary state where we get to show by our choices if we will choose good over evil, and if we love light more than dark. If God were to proove his existance, it wouldn't be a test anymore. Everyone would have to submit to his laws perfectly because we would be perfectly accountable, without excuse. This life should leave some gray areas as to truth because it is not black and white as to whether we're good people. In as much as we exercise faith, we are rewarded with a gradation of glory in the next life cooresponding with the types of choices we made. Faith isn't just for religion. We literally walk by faith in every aspect of our lives. Faith is just exericing hope in the possible.

Because there is no way to prove them wrong. Some people hate being wrong.
-
Cause the point of Religion is to believe in something you can't see. Religion was created to explain what we couldn't explain. Otherwise it would be science, not religion.

Most religions have their basis in ancient times... There may be no proof. The only thing you need "proof" for is the factual and historical parts of it... That certain people in it existed, did what it is said they did, etc. They also want you to believe in their tenets, and if you do, you don't require proof for that.
-
um... because their ancestors were passing it down and that they didn't know if it was right or wrong?

What is proof for some is not understood or seen by others. Even in the face of what may seem like plenty of proof, some court cases get thrown out so who's to say that there is no proof for all people. It doesn't take 'faith' if you're talking about blind faith. Faith, true faith, is based on evidence and experiences. Hebrews 11:1 says that "faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld". It's like if your friend always give you a ride to work each Friday, and does so for 10 years, you just know, you have faith, that he will do so the next Friday. If your mom is always there for you when you are sick, you have faith that she will be there next time you are sick. If an employee works very well when you aren't there to dir4ect them, you have faith that he is a good worker and will do so in the future. That is faith. You see what they have done in the past and what other people's experiences have been and you learn who to trust and who not to.

Because they can't get people to believe with proof.
-
Be honest. How much proof do you really require in your daily life? How do you know your alarm clock will wake you up? Where's the proof that your breakfast isn't poisonous? What makes you so sure your car will start? Or that the oncoming car will stay on his side of the road? You believe many things without proof. Why is it so important that you prove the existence of God beyond the obvious evidence we have been given over thousands of years?
-
That is the definition of a religion. If there were proof, it would be science (or history). Religion, by definition, is belief in something which cannot be proved.
-
why didn't you ever see real proof of the tooth fairy?
