First of all, only One God wants to be worshipped. There aren't muliple ones, or even multiple possible ones. God allowed us to have children so that we can feel part of what God Himself felt when He created the first man, Adam. Children look to their earthly parents as we are to look to Him, especially if we are Christians, and therefore, His children. God is holy, and He created all things for He wanted to share the joy of living, and since all life came from him, it is only natural that we at least thank Him and worship for that.

it all depends on your religion [again] the abrahamic religions believe in one god who created us to be worshipped. it's kind of beyond me really in that sense to see it from his point of view, but i believe in the god of abraham too and i have no problem worshipping him in my way. other gods - say from greek mythology wanted to be worshipped in the sense so that they could have what they wanted from them, and in return [sometimes] they would grant mortal humans the favor asked... just my 2 cents

Megalomania?

This is one of the points about many western religions that doesn't really gell. While I can envision a God who is omniscient and omnipresent...I can't reconcile why an all-knowing, all-powerful being would care to be worshiped? Surely the purpose of worship is not for his/her/it's benefit but rather for ours. It must be an outward symbol of our respect for the power that is really beyond our understanding. Something humans feel is necessary to constantly remind us of our connection to something that is greater than all of us.
-
Egomania... or megalomania I guess. Or maybe he just has a God Complex... ha ha!!!
-
I suspect an element of existence is conscious acknowlegdment of which without it existence becomes meaningless. Worship is the extreme.. befitting that which is divine.
-
a god does not, it,s religion does.
-
Why do you want to be treated with respect? Worship is what the true God is worthy of - a higher level of respect.
-
GOD DOES NOT WANT TO BE WORSHIPPED. FOR GOD, WE ARE ALL THE SAME, WE CAN MAKE MISTAKES, HAVE DESIRES. WHAT I CALL GOD IS THE ENERGY THAT CAUSED THE EVOLUTION PROCESS. IT CAUSED CREATION. RELIGIONS SHOW GOD AS A CRUEL PUNISHER. I RESPECT EVERY RELIGION ON EARTH BUT I BELIEVE IN GOODNESS. IF I DO SOMETHING GOOD, I DONT DO IT TO WORSHIP GOD OR NOT TO GET PUNISHED. I DO IT IN THE NAME OF GOODNESS.
-
I guess it's the basis for religion. No worship would mean no religion. That doesn't mean it's right.

It makes the belief all that more seemingly plausible when you actually have to do something about it, and gives, ironically enough, a sense of self worth. We can believe what we want, but without something to illustrate its authenticity and apparent authority, it just seems empty, and gives people time to think how ludicrous some of it is. Every religion or spiritual path or doctrine has some kind of aspect to acknowledge through worship, prayer or otherwise, or a chore to undergo to receive blessings or protection or guidance, even older religions had sacrifices. Most today suggest a certain lifestyle like Buddhism or social conduct reflected with morality and values in exchange for a rather trite idea of immortality or ideal conclusion to our mortal lives, so it all goes hand in hand pretty well with the way society obligates us to function. Some sort of physical manifestation of justification for otherwise clinging to something that would question idle minds. There's a great deal of psychology going on about religious movement and evolution. :/ So does God want to be worshiped? I don't know, ask Him, not humans.
-
Because we just project in a god what we think we would like... If a god existed, it would probably have no need to be worshipped.
-
Greatness Of Death never wanted to be worshipped. Now if you meant God i don't think he/she/it or whatever would need to be worshipped.Worshipping god is a human need.
-
Worshiping God is for our benefit not His. Worshiping is the adoration WILLINGLY given to one's Creator where we acknowledge that without Him we are NOTHING. Worship is then the kind of LOVE that belongs to God alone and yes He wants us to love Him because HE LOVES US. His is the PERFECT LOVE. He is risen. Praise God.
-
It is natural to worship He who is holy, and while there is a LOT to be gained from our side, He wants and certainly deserves our never ending adoration.
-
At least partly because worship is a great PR system. People are being destroyed every day because they don't measure up to His standards, and they haven't taken advantage of the free offer of eternal life that He has made. The more people who worship Him, the more people will learn how to live forever in glory. How can that be a bad thing?
-
What is worship? Worship means “to give honor, homage, reverence, respect, adoration, praise, or glory to a superior being.” God demands worship because He and He alone is worthy of it. He is the only being that truly deserves worship. He requests that we acknowledge His greatness, His power and His glory. Revelation 4:11 tells us, “You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created.” God expects us to worship Him as an expression of reverence and thanksgiving to Him. But God wants even more than that. God also expects us to be obedient to Him. He wants not only for us to love Him; He wants us to act justly towards each other, to show love and compassion to others. In this way, we present ourselves to Him as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to Him. This glorifies God and is our “reasonable service” (Romans 12:1). When we worship with an obedient heart and an open and repentant spirit, God is glorified, Christians are purified, the church is edified and the lost are evangelized. These are all the elements of true worship. God also desires that we worship Him because our eternal destiny depends on our worship of the true and living God. Philippians 3:3 describes the true church, the body of believers in Jesus Christ whose eternal destiny is heaven. God demands, seeks and requests our worship because He deserves it, because it is the nature of a Christian to worship Him, and because our eternal destiny depends upon it. That is the theme of redemptive history: to worship the true, living and glorious God. References taken from gotquestions.org

it demands worship, it needs worship, it exists because of worship, it is a moody bitch, like any supernatural thing
-
If I were a god, I wouldn't care what the puny mortals did. I would have larger concerns. Worship or the lack thereof would go unnoticed by me.
-
How can you worship a god who allows so much pain and misery to occur to so many good and innocent people (not to mention billions of other animals)?

That is the theme of redemptive history: to worship the true, living and glorious God. I noticed that some made the comment of why should someone worship a God that allows evil. Perhaps a good way to look at this issue would be to consider some alternative situations for how people might have God run the world. For one God could change everyone’s personality so that they cannot sin. This would also mean that we would not have a free will. We would not be able to choose right or wrong because we would be “programmed” to only do right. Had God chosen to do this, there would be no meaningful relationships between Him and His creation. God would have to completely eliminate our personalities, character, feelings, our ability to distinguish right from wrong, our ability to make any choices whatsoever. We would have to blindly follow everything God commanded of us without complaint and with no relief in sight. You would sleep, wake up, eat, walk around like a zombie. You couldn't make a move without God allowing it. There would be no anger, crime, fear, laughter or love, just blind obedience. It would have to be that way because us humans are very emotional beings so all emotion would have to stop. Your life would amount to rolling a large rock up a hill, watch it roll down then roll it back up only to repeat it hour after hour, day after day, year after year, until the day you die. If that is what you want God to do then put in your petition. I prefer to live life as it is now. A life where I have a choice to love, laugh, get angry, make mistakes, fix the mistakes, enjoy fellowship with God out of love and not because I have too.

1) There are various ideas about what a god could be: - a god could be an entity who would fulfill your prayers. In this case, it is evident that your prayers can only be fulfilled if you make them. So we are actually the people who want to make those prayers in the hope that they are fulfilled. - a God could be an entity who would be dangerous for those who ignore it. But this could just be in the similar sense that if you ignore the danger of lightning, it could kill you. - also, if some pray it to destroy or disadvantage others, it could do it when it don't get prayers from the others (this would be somewhat unfair for those who have never heard of it). - or, a god could just be someone who does not tolerate you not giving it a minimum of respect (just like parents, or people who invite you to their home, or pets holders from their pets) - last but not least, a god could just not care about being worshiped 2) I had just a look at the Bible's 10 commandments, and I noticed that there is not a single comandment that explicitly says that that God wants to be worshiped. (Exodus 20:2–17; Deuteronomy 5:6–21; Exodus 34:11–27) God says that it is "the Lord your God". God wants: - that you observe its commandments - that you do not have any other gods - that you do not make an idol - that you accept it as your god - that you love it (no idea of worship here) - that you don't misuse its name - that you keep the Sabbath day holy - that you honor your father and mother The only thing is that the fact of saying that it is "the Lord your God" could eventually implies a particular kind of worship, as those people who received the law were probably used to worship the gods that they had until then. People invented god, not the othe way around. It's our way of trying to avert catastrophy and pain. Considering all the disasters that have afflicted humankind, whether they be natural or human-caused, then god has done precious little to protect the people he professes to love so much. If Satan was the catalyst for knowledge, then "long live Satan." Knowledge, if channeled properly, will ultimately save (or doom) humankind. I'm a former Christian, and I got sick of the hyprocrisy, the lies, the deceit and the "one way" to worship, which no one can seem to agree on. I saw the light when I rejected it.

God does not need anything. Neither is worshiped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; Acts 17:25
-
Don't think he /she does but rather listened to for our own good!
-
For our own good. God does not need our worship but He does deserve it. God wants to be worshipped by us so that our priorities are correct, thus He gave us the first Commandment. Our lives will be better and happier if we put God first and not make other things into gods like money, status, self, power, etc. With love in Christ.

Maybe why parents find great joy in their children saying thanks, and giving them a hug and a kiss.

God does not care if you worship him/her. People care if you worship God.
