  • Just a guess but I know that chows are extremely protective. She may be "guarding" your door.
  • I have had the fortune of owning two rescued chows for five years. Since I did not raise them, I knew very little about them. The first thing I did was to study their breed. I truly wish more people would do the same with their own dogs. Although they each have distinctively different personalities and temperments, I learned that they are not very "cuddly" type creatures like most dogs although mine are very docile and sweet in nature. In fact, they are more like cats than anything else! I think they are quite misunderstood. They are very intelligent, and you must earn their trust. Many are quite wary of strangers, so I have taken the time to socialize them. They come to me for affection, but when they have had their needs met, they walk away. I don't take it personally. They also sleep in my bedroom, and yes, they are extremely protective. They will not sleep on the bed. They have always slept by the door. I love the breed, I think they are amazing, although mostly one-person type dogs, so one should take that into consideration when considering them as pets.
