As stated in the other answer 3 to 6 is the max for a piggy. Our personal piggies are all six to seven years of age; it all depends on proper nutrition and cage management. Pet store just sell you the pig and do not educate you on the true care of the piggy. Many things that they sell are actually dangerous for your piggy. Cedar shaving and pine shavings with chlorophyll' are extremely dangerous with long term use, alphalpha hay give to much after six month of age can land you in the vet with a really big bill, it is better to feed Timothy hay. It is the responsible and knowledgeable pet owners that have longer living piggies. I run a guinea pig rescue as of today I have managed to place 1770 in loving home after the were abandoned or abused. If you would like to know more about our rescue just follow this http://www.petfinder.org/shelters/NJ250.html to our page. (O:

If we’re asking how long a guinea pig *can* live, the Guinness Book of World Records states that the oldest known guinea pig was 14 years, 10.5 months old. Its name was Snowball.
