  • I was a vegan for many years, now I eat meat. My steak has to be well done, no pink whatsoever. I have been to resturants where they brought the steak out still very pink and had them tell me "that is well done"
  • No, but a local restaurant has a disclaimer on their menu: Well Done - excessive broiling thoroughly removes flavor and tenderness. We will do it but it breaks our heart and we cannot be responsible for the outcome.
  • Yes, at the San Francisco Steak House. I asked to speak to the manager, refused to pay for what we had already consumed, then walked out. I am the one eating it, what the heck should they care?
  • I'll cook a steak any way you want it. Here in Vietnam, there is the belief that burned food is unhealthy... that the charcoal created will kill you (never mind that they eat about 25 lbs. of MSG in a week). I once had a party in my house, where I served some beautiful steaks from New Zealand. I asked my guests how they wanted them. Being Vietnamese and not accustomed to Western food, they didn't know, so they said, "However you eat it, Bill..." So I made them all rare. When one woman noticed blood in her steak, she got a plate from my cupboard and started taking everyone's steak from their plates (without asking). She went to the stove and cooked all that nasty blood out. A few days later, I took some friends to the Texas Bar BQ, a popular steakhouse here in Saigon. That lady was with us and I ordered a steak rare. I showed her what my steak looked like. I tried to tell her it was the way I wanted it. One of the waitresses set her straight... I hope.
  • I don't like meat well-done, but if I asked for it and they refused to cook it the way I want, I would not pay for it. And good on your Dad! I don't care if it does "break their heart" to cook the food the way I want it, that I am going to eat, not them, I expect to get what I ask for. Especially at the prices some places charge. It is not their place to tell me that I must have it their way or that my way is wrong.
  • No, but I've had the opposite happen... I've asked for my steak to be rare, only to be told that they did not serve rare or medium-rare beef.
