  • Yes, sort of... Babies need extra suppliments to their diet by 2 or 3 months old. Sleeping all day is just a schedule adjustment..he might be up all night. At 3 1/2 months old they should be awake 3-4 hours a day between naps, and sleep all night. As for the weight gain, he should only be adding about a pound a month. The cereal should replace one of the feedings so perhaps you are overfeeding him. Some babies don't let you know when they are full, you have to monitor their intake. You can ask the hospital if they have breastfeeding classes... I know you aren't having trouble feeding, but they weigh the baby, before and after breastfeeding and can determine how much they are eating...it is a free class that most hospitals offer.
  • I thought I would add a little comment to this post. I breast feed both my kids. When I was a new mom, my baby girl constantly wanted to be at my breast. She would sleep with my nipple in her mouth and suckle occasionally. Every time I took her away from my breast she would cry. I was so frustrated and thought something was wrong with my milk.... I would literally hold her there and cry myself sometimes. Finally the nutritionist was able to help me with my dilemma. It was not that she was feeding the whole time but that she was using my breast as a pacifier! You see because she was breast fed she did not want the plastic pacifier she wanted the warm comfort of mom. As much as I loved her this had to be broken. We can not spend 24/7 with our baby to our breast! I am not sure if this is happening to you but thought I would mention it just in case!
  • Sounds perfectly normal. It's probably a growth spurt! When they're going through a growth spurt, they often need to nurse much more often... takes a lot of energy to grow! Remember that breastmilk is very easily digested, and nursing as often as every hour is not uncommon! My daughter did just that at that age, and she's a healthy, happy 15 month old!
  • I think he may just be going through a growth spurt. When young babies and toddlers go through a spurt like this, they are often hungrier than normal and may cry from the "growing pains".
  • He is teething DUH!
