It's not conducive for the callee to listen to a caller trying to collect on a debt. It's usually the tact of making one feel guilty that causes the immediate hang up. If the debt collectors were to some how incorporate the personality of Monty Hall in collecting. They might have better luck, and avoid the immediate hang up.

Yes I would hang up. They're just telephone clerks who's sole purpose in the organization is to make phone calls. For pete's sake, you could train a monkey to do that. Press one button to make the call, a second to play a recorded message and a third to hang up.
