The real answer is that we are for the most part afraid to parent due to our own laws, that in a sense we went along with. We reap what we sew, we ask for it and we received it..laws that make parenting difficult. To answer your question, would be yes...some what. Most kids today have only received and hardly given or earned.

No. We've lost control of our perceptions. Kids are just as disrespectful as they have always been. If anything, they're just louder about it on the internet.

Try to think of a time when the older generation didn't think the younger generation was disrespectful, and try not to think of any kind of fictional universe. Yeah, we're a little disrespectful, but look what we have to put up with.

I think some of today's youth are extremely disrespectful to adults, and I do think it may be coming more of a norm. But, I don't like to stereotype them by saying all teens are disrespectful, because I know several teenagers that are very polite, responsible, and considerate young people. If our teenagers are disrespectful, part of that fault lies with the parenting. I have a young friend who is extremely disrespectful to her parents and her teachers. But, she's disrespectful at school because she has been allowed to be that way at home. If the parents allow the children to be disrespectful at home, what can they expect when their children are out in public?

Young people have an unprecedented sense of entitlement. I think the endless media (of tv or the net) of what is popular or best has changed society as a whole on a cultural level. Add also the laws and "reports of abuse" that make some parents afraid to act. Young people are not lost. They are on a different road than what society has historically experienced. It's called change.
