  • Welcome to warmer weather. You may suffer from the heat some in the summer BUT you sure won't miss all that cold, ice and snow. Sure KC gets some cold, ice and snow but hot at all like MN. Tornados, don't worry about that. KC is not in tornado alley. It's south and east of the worst tornado area.
  • I am in Wichita, KS, about 3 hours south and west of Kansas City. Expect lots of thunderstorms throughout the spring with occasional tornadoes. Tornadoes will be common in the news reports, but remember that they're spread out over a very large area, so it's relatively unlikely that you'll ever really have to worry about one. I don't recall a major tornado hitting KC proper, ever. There have been some smallish ones, and one pretty big one that hit a suburb in recent years. The winters will be mild compared to Minnesota, but the summers will probably be almost unbearably hot for the first few years. July and August will see temps from 98 - 104 almost every day, with never enough rain. Fall weather is usually very nice and easy to get along with.
