  • Just want to say that the avi files will play on computer but not on divx player after burning to data disc. Why? Avi plays on divx player, whats the difference between one avi. file and another that would not allow it to play, divx player says 'wrong file content', how can that be, its avi for Christs sake, avi is avi, whats the diff?
  • I believe some AVI files are encoded or compressed using a CODEC. Very similar to taking a Bitmap (.BMP) and compressing it with winzip, winrar, or 7zip. Inside, it's still a BMP file. Try Downloading ACE's MegaCODEC Pack or play them back with VLC media player.
  • I can relate to what you are saying because I have had a lot of problems with my avi vidoes that I have taken with my camera, they would play on anybody elses equipment but not mine, so infuriating. I said the same that it's avi and my equipment nd software supports avi so why will they not play. I had run the disc that came with my camera to install the driver but nothing. I downloaded this pack of codecs and that pack of codecs but nothing I eventually contacted the manufacturer of the camera who went through a series of processes to get the correct codecs and now I can watch my videos. Just because your divx player plays avi format it does not mean it recognises your avi files, it needs the correct codecs to recognise the avi files because avi files come with hundreds of different codecs.
