1 of my teachers says that he thinks kids should be able 2 listen 2 ipods in class.He says that he think listening to music while during our work,could make our grades higher,since we would be concentrating more & not talking.What do you think about this?

Sounds like he wants a built in babysitter so he doesn't have to go that extra mile and actually, horror of horrors, control his class!!;)

It really depends on how he views your class. I mean, if he trusts you guys and realized that you guys are more productive when you have something to listen to, then it can be true. And if he knew that the class doesn't work well with music, then he wouldn't have said it.

some people believe that his theory is correct. One of the best classrooms I ever observed moved the desks into several smaller work centers, instead of the straight rows, and then turned the lights down just a little bit and played soothing music quietly. Well my grades, and GPA went up when I started listening to my mp3 player in HS(I wasnt supposed to, but aw well)

I had a GREAT history teacher in high school. I actually formally requested that I be in his classes for three years. He taught through lecture, never gave homework. We were expected to listen, to take notes, and to learn on our own. On testing days, he played music for us - usually something classical, but occasionally he took requests -- so long as the CD came from his approved collection (the classroom was LINED with bookshelves, and next to the CD player was a case of well over 100 cds). It was the best high school experience I ever had; I learned more there than any other class. In short, if the teacher has exercised control over his class, and has the respect of his students, it can be acceptable and even beneficial to allow music to play during work sessions. If NOT... I don't see how listening to "Bootylicious" or something like that is going to help you work out chemistry equations.

i did it all through high school and polytech. Not when the teachers were talking, but when we were doing work by ourselves. It kept me from noticing all the noisy people who wouldnt shut up!
