I do not think vinegar will leave a bad odor. I know that since I have a puppy I clean up the messes with vinegar and water. I don't have a vinegar smell to my house, at least I don't think I do.

You may smell vinegar for a couple of hours, but that would be about it. I use a half cup of vinegar when I wash towels and the baby's "peed-on" bedlinen. (I am the proud Nana of a two year old grandson!) I let the load rinse, and then use the second rinse with fabric softener. I have no vinegar smell in that. A vinegar and water mix may be used on crib mattress to eliminate the odour of urine. Same solution works well on pet odours in the carpet. I would be more anxious about the vinegar may be discolouring the carpet. As extra info for you, Linda Cobb, authoress of TALKING DIRTY WITH THE QUEEN OF CLEAN, lists several inexpensive home remedies for eliminating odours. Such are itemized in Chapter 15 entitled "The Nose Knows--Odor Control. Good Luck!

Just blot up what you can, and don't worry about the rest. The vinegar smell will go away as it evaporates, and it'll dry as though it never happened.
