Absolutely not! It is not the governments role, nor do they have a right to use taxpayers money to bail out people who took out loans which they would be unable to repay, or chose to accept terms in the loan that would make it make it so. Lack of individual responsibility is the problem, government is not the solution. Let it work itself out. I work hard to pay my own mortgage, which is a struggle. I sure don't want the government to take my money to pay someone elses. They have no right. I would love to have a much larger and nicer home but I made the responsible decision to buy what I could afford. If others did not it is not on me to cover their mistake.

No, you lived above your means, that is your problem.

Sure. Why not. We're giving people money for all sorts of reasons, why not to own their home. I will work until April 30th this year to pay my tax bill. Why not work an extra few days for some undeserving dickhead who can't count and realize he may actually have to make a reasonable mortgage payment at some point in his life? If you took away all the money from everyone and redistributed it equally amongst the population, in 5 years those who were poor before would be poor again and those who were rich would be rich again. If you bail these people out of their mortgages, they are just going to end up doing something like this again. Make them feel the sting of greedy, dumbass decision. I have a 30 year fixed mortgage for a reason, I am smart. I am not greedy. And I am labeled a "greedy capitalist" on this site. I hope everyone having mortgage trouble loses their God Damned house. I am so sick of helping the greedy. Let's educate the ignorant and let the stupid die off.

No, because that also bails out the banks that helped to contribute to this mess. Wait, if there is no bailout, then the banks just recoup their losses from all their customers through higher fees and lending rates. Face it, you're all gonna pay, one way or another.

NO..They should have been more informed shoppers and understood what they were getting into before making the biggest investment in their lives.. Unfortunately the brokers took advantage of their ignorance.

People should get some help, because many banks and financial institutions persuaded or seduced customers to getting into terms of loans that were not wise and were too much for them. Now these people have made unwise decisions based on the information and persuasion of their financiers and are not able to maintain the loans they took.

No - I don't think the government can afford to bail out everybody who makes a rash or uninformed decision. I would hope that my tax dollars are going to enable some idiot who doesn't have the common sense to read a contract & understand MAJOR FINANCIAL DEALS that they embark upon. Perhaps what the government should do, is start educating people BEFORE the aquire a loan, so that they understand the terms and restrictions they are considering. I feel like that would be better use of the funds, regardless of where they come from.
