  • Me personally, I think we need to start letting countries handle their own problems. We here in America can't even seem to help those in need that live on our door step. The homeless, poor, children in need...etc. Toss out some help every once in a while, but we don't always need to be the 'sleeping dragon' that comes swooping in for every conflict.
  • Well we can start reducing the 100 Billion dollars plus spent there. Also, no more combat troops being killed or maimed.
  • In a study done by By Peter Bergen and Paul Cruickshank, research fellows at the Center on Law and Security at the NYU School of Law, who used data from the MIPT-RAND Terrorism database, they found the following: The rate of fatal terrorist attacks around the world by jihadist groups, and the number of people killed in those attacks, increased dramatically after the invasion of Iraq. Globally there was a 607 percent rise in the average yearly incidence of attacks (28.3 attacks per year before and 199.8 after) and a 237 percent rise in the fatality rate (from 501 to 1,689 deaths per year). A large part of this rise occurred in Iraq, the scene of almost half the global total of jihadist terrorist attacks. 1.6 million Iraqis have been displaced within the country. As many as 1.8 million have left Iraq, with 3,000 fleeing daily. In 2006, 30% of Iraqi children went to school. Before the war, attendance was nearly 100%. A 2006 survey of children in Baghdad found that 47% had recently experienced a major traumatic event; 14% had posttraumatic stress disorder. 40% of Iraqi professionals have fled, including 1/3 of all doctors. 2,000 doctors have been murdered since 2003. The number of Iraqis in jail or prison is up 30% since the fall of Saddam Hussein. One of the 66 women in the Iraqi Parliament told the UK Observer, “This is the worst time ever in Iraqi women’s lives. In the name of religion and sectarian conflict they are being kidnapped and killed and raped.” Between 2003 and 2005, Army divorces increased by 14%. The Miles Foundation reports that calls to its domestic violence hot line for military spouses jumped from 50 to 600 per month after the start of the Iraq War. Suiceide rates of both active duty and verteran US soldiers is climbing at an alarming rate, especially among those 20-24 serving in Iraq. Violence begets violence. When pushed, those being pushed will push back. There's no clearer example that Iraq right now. What we're doing over there isn't helping anyone and new strategies need to be looked at.
  • great question, myself running is the wrong thing to do but i'm sick of all these proxy wars including iraq why dont we just say were fighting the iranians, its like our boys are dying in the calm before the storm and remember where ever america goes australia goes to
  • The debate about the decision to go into Iraq is over. It is done. We are there. There is no point wasting time argueing about the decision. It is clear we cannot withdraw now. America and her allies promised these people freedom and a chance at democracy, it's a promise we must keep. The hand wringing by the Democrats about how it's all Bush's fault holds no water either. It's petty and blatantly false. http://www.arguewitheveryone.com/war-iraq/11119-truth-about-iraq.html
  • Yeah. Since we are already there anyway, and gone this far, we have to stay and finish the job. Otherwise we are just the nation that went in, bombed the crap out of a country, caused an insane amount of conflict to get into the everyday lives of millions, and then left the country still in ruins. We would look like total pricks!
  • Yes, Many people do believe that we should wave the white flag. If we pulled out now, Iraq would be taken over by Iran, then we would only have to go back again. There would be mass slaughtering of the Iraq people, just like what happened in Vietnam!! Some people have short memories, and seem to forget what happened in Vietnam. I think we should start using some of these new weapons that we have developed. Lets slam some smart bombs into the headquarters of the terrorists. What are we doing fighting hand to hand combat?? I think a few cruise missles would do the trick. We spend billions of dollars developing these weapons, and we are not using them, why??
