Why do some people believe in the existence of mythological creatures (e.g., bigfoot, mothman), etc.?

I guess some people just have faith in things that can't be proven to exist. How silly! I wholeheartedly believe in mermaids. Also, the abominable snowman. I'm really not joking. :-) <- that's just for good measure.

Some people love the mystery and want to believe that there is more to life than just what we all know and are used to. It makes them feel a bit more special that there's a secluded part of their country that doesn't belong to humans- it's Bigfoot's territory or the Loch Ness Monster's domain. Whether you believe it or not, I guess there's a part of us that never grows out of fairy tales. I also think that many scientific minds want to challenge or prove these theories- is Bigfoot a primitive man? Is the loch ness monster a dinosaur who has survived? Are there diseases that cause mutation in humans? I think people want to prove that these myths were not entirely imagined and that there is still a lot that we haven't figured out yet.

Because to this day new species of land and sea animals and fish are being found.Many creatures have evolved and other have not evolved.Scientists acknowledge there is caverns deep in the oceans and seas that lead to oceans beneath the oceans.Thus ,what we call prehistoric creatures,or as you word it mythological creatures,are seen or caught,especially in the sea.

Uneducated people tend to be gullible. They also have difficulty distinguishing the rational from the irrational. Mythological creatures are only a part of what might believe in.

This is going to be a really unpopular answer but, for many of the same reasons people believe in god or jesus. Stories passed down from generation to generation. If you look at cave paintings and such, many of the mythological creature can be found there.

If you examine some of the evidence in detail, in particular with bigfoot where there is video, footprints and eyewitness accounts, there is enough to leave the question of existence open. There are many skeptical replies, but it is important to remember that ALL of them are mere opinion. That is to say, just because it sounds logical doesn't mean it's true. You have to ignore skeptics and study the facts for yourself.
