BC is Before Christ AD is Anno Domini

0 is not a real year, it's just a mark on time. BC is before this mark and AD is after.

Our calendar years are based on the assumed date of birth of Jesus. BC means Before Christ and AD means Anno Domini, which is Latin for Year of God (I think). There was no year zero and, as Christ wasn't born in 1 AD, this year probably shouldn't be called 2008 - but it's too late to change now.

Okay. AD is not after death. BC is "before christ" and AD is an abbreviation for the latin phrase "Anno Domini" which is translated to "In the year of our (or the) Lord." There is no year "0." Just 1 BC and 1 AD. And yes, this is really 2008. If you count from where the Gregorian calender does. It depends on when you want to start counting time from. From the creation of humans, or the earth or the death of Jesus...it depends.

If read many reports of a 5-6 BC birth. And a visitation of the 3 kings 3-4 years after the birth. Is it a hidden secret yet to be revealed. Who would know this little child would change the calender even the world .

G'day Escussion, Thank you for your question. BC stands for before Christ. AD stands for Anno Domini which means in the Year of our Lord. A Greek monk called Dionysius Exiguus developed the system of AD while the venerable Bede came up with BC. As Dionysius was not very precise with his dating, Jesus could have been born as early as 18BC according to some datings but 4 to 7 years BC is more common. Noone really knows when Jesus was born so this is as good a year as any other for 2008. I have attached sources for your reference.
