Why doesn't cigarette lighter work in 2007 corolla-tried two different brand new ones-I guess they don't make cars with working parts

Have you checked the fuses?

first thougt, same fuse is for dash light, rearview mirror ect... those all work, so obviously thats not the problem

many new cars require the ignition to be turned on for the cigarette lighter to work

I figured that out, when the car is running a phone charger will work.

Check the plug on the back of the cigarette socket... if you can eliminate the fuse, Behind the panel that the cigerette lighter is on... You can see in this image - on the LEFT side there are 2 connectors (Spade connections) maybe one or both of yours are loose or disconnected...??..
