Cremation does not use up space in a cemetery...
-
Financial considerations. Change in religious views on cremation. A couple of possibilities anyway.
-
Possibly for the same reasons that mausoleums have died a death. A cultural change towards a ceremony that remembers a person but which doesn't force people to visit a place of memorial that is established by the state and threatened by developers. Ashes can be interred or scattered as people wish, and many people will feel that they are less of an imposition in an urn. Authorities frown on whole bodies being retained or tossed into the sea at their favourite fishing spots.
-
One reason for many is to express one's independence by deviating from tradition. Sometimes it is a way to get even with family for past conflicts.
-
I think cost has a lot to do with the increase. I also believe that the religious institutions have changed their views on cremation. For example, Roman Catholics forbade cremation, unless the reason was justifiable. As of the mid 1960's all restrictions were lifted.

Running out of space, fast.

CREMATION TAKES UP LESS ROOM,HOUSING,CEMETARIES USING VALUABLE LAND FOR RAISING FOOD,SOON WE WILL HAVE TO PURCHASE CANADA TO RAISE CROPS.
-
Mainly its money. Plus, after attending a few funerals where your last memories of the deceased; haunt you, because they look so awful...cremation seems a safe way out. A lovely urn w beautiful flowers instead of a nice casket and a waxy bloated figure that loosely resembles your friend/family member inside.
-
Its a MUCH cheaper process. Not to mention easier on the family. (in my opinion)
-
It's cheaper, better for the earth (no burial plots tagging up land) and you can donate your whole body or parts to science which helps your fellow man. I've even discussed this with my son and we have everything planned out~
-
Maybe the idea of being worm food isn't as appealing as it used to me. I'm sorry if that offends anyone but it's the truth...cremation seems much more 'clean'.
-
BIG DIFFERENCE IN PRICE
-
I will because: I like the idea of being scattered in my favorite places. Won't be wasting any space on the earth. Nobody can dig me up later and put my skull on their fireplace mantle w/a candle behind my eyes. I don't like the idea of being underground w/the worms. I will know for sure I won't be burried alive. These are my reasons. And honestly I think others may be feeling some of the same things.

I have instructed my executor to arrange for my cremation privately. He will then arrange with select family and friends to attend memorial services aboard a cruise liner, whereupon my ashes are to be disposed of the first night. Immediately thereafter, everyone is to have a fantastic time --I mean PARTY!--for the next seven days. The cost of the cruise is to be borne from my estate...but not their damn booz, I'm smart enough not t'pick up THAT tab!!! :-) I want no sadness...I want no grief...I want fun and celebration. And I DEFINITELY don't want friends and family feeling some measure of obligation to visit some dumbass headstone once, twice or ever! If ya wanna visit, go for a swim in the ocean! :-) [I do have a question, though: I'm 70, why do so many of my family already have their damn cruise stuff laid out 'n ready t'go?!? :-)]

One of the reasons is urn is mobile. When people have moving issue deep at the back of their minds they do cremation of their loved ones. That is what my cousin did when her husband died. I cremated my mom. May be I have moving issue in my mind too, I don't know yet. But the cost was not less then burial: about $3,500. The masauleum environment is better to visit than out in the cemetery.
-
There's no land available. the cemetaries are full.
-
How about keeping a loved ones ashes close to the one they love? Yes, its cheaper than a regular burial and overall, burial sites are becoming a premium liability, not to mention lack of space.
