My projection TV was on and working fine then shut itself off. It will not go back on. I changed the fuse and it did no good. It is 9 years old so it might be the bulb, but is there any way to check this before buying one?

Sure, remove the old bulb, power up the unit and check the socket for voltage. If you have jolts in the socket, and the bulb doesn't light, the bulb is burnt out. If you don't know what you are doing with a volt meter, or how to check a live ciruit, don't do this. -
