Question

Help answer this question below.

Sometimes at night, my cat will act very peacefully and affectionately toward me as she rubs against my legs and purrs. But then, out of the blue, she'll just attack my leg and begin to claw at my leg like she would a scratching post. Why?

My cat does the same thing. I think she has just decided it's time to play and knows that by doing this she will wake you up. Our cat knows she gets told off for doing it but seems prepared to take that risk as she knows that once we're awake, she can keep pestering us and it's harder to ignore us.

Also, cats seem to enjoy clawing at things that are hidden underneath duvets - I suppose it's the mystery aspect of it. With our cat, if she's getting too scratchy, we pull back the duvet to let her see that the exciting thing she's attacking is actually attached to a body, and she loses interest.

She's probably just playing with you, or it simply she's angry and taking her frustration out on you!

My cat has done the same thing, too!
