  • There are a lot of famous people who love cats. Ernest Hemingway is one of the most famous cat lovers and his Hemingway Home and Museum estate is filled with them today. About 60 cats roam the estate, about half of those are polydactyl, 6-toed cats. They have famous names like Audry Hepburn, Emily Dickinson, and Charlie Chaplin. Mark Twain was a notorious cat lover and kept the most famous one, Bambino, with him almost at all times. One of my favorite cat quotes is by Twain: " A home without a cat, and a well-fed, well-petted and properly revered cat, may be a perfect home, perhaps, but how can it prove its title?" Abe Lincoln also owned a tabby cat. Lincoln said of them: “No matter how much cats fight, there always seems to be plenty of kittens.” Other famous historical cat lovers were Sir Winston Churchill, Edgar Allen Poe, Ronald Regan, Marilyn Monroe and James Dean. The prophet Mohammed, founder of the Muslim faith, also liked cats. He once cut off the sleeve of his robe to avoid waking a sleeping cat as he rose to pray. Regis Philbin and Jay Leno often talk about their cats. And more famous cat lovers: Ellen Degeneres, Kirsten Dunst, Patrick Stewart, Jake Gyllenhaal, Marisa Tomei, Kate Beckinsale, Tony Amendola, George W. Bush, Billy Crystal, Christina Ricci, Bo Derek, Linda Evans, Suzanne Somers, Victoria Principle, Andy Serkis, Joan Van Ark, Vanna White, Pamela Hensley, Warren Beatty, Ann Margret, Whitney Houston, Joe Namath, Antonio Banderas, Rachael Bella, Sally Jessie Raphael, Vivica A. Fox, Betty White, Aaron Neville, Yoko Ono, Frank Zappa, The Osbornes, and Sean Astin. :)
