Does she sleep swaddled? With a pacifier? White noise in the background (a fan running, or an air purifier - not pointed at her)? I know if you're breastfeeding, it may be too early to start her on a pacifier... but they DO help some babies sleep more deeply. Being swaddled in a blanket or two may help her feel like she's being held, and white noise is very soothing (heck, I still need white noise to sleep). All in all, I would not worry too much. She's very young, and her sleep patterns haven't really been established yet. I'd let her decide as much as possible when she wants to sleep. Soon enough her body should naturally react to daylight and nighttime, and she will be sleepy at night.

first off, congrats on the new baby! To answer your question.. babys at that age love to be cuddled, the warmth of you body makes them feel very comfortable.. after your babys feeding try to but her in her crib or bassinet before she falls asleep, I know it is hard to do, if she does fall asleep in your arms, slowly put her/him in her bed and put your hand on her belly so she knows that your still there..

Firstly she is still very young but if you can establish a pattern now it will help in the long run. She will love the warmth and security of being held close to you and will wake when she feels the human contact removed but you need to persevere. Lay her down and keep contact by stroking her belly/back (not sure which way up they are telling you to lay babies this week) and talk to her softly to reassure her. You could also play some music softly which if you use the same piece every time she will begin to associate with sleeping. It'll come right soon don't worry.

Babies cannot soothe themselves to sleep until about 6 months, developmentally speaking. You are gonna have to just ride it out until she gets older.

I always held my daughter to put her to sleep and now it has become a routine that if i am not present to hold her or to lye next to her she doesnt want to sleep. she has to be extremly tired to sleep on her own. try your best now to get her use to falling asleep if you dont want to always put her to sleep yourself. But as a newborn she fell asleep on her own, she was swaddled in a blanket so when she jerks in her sleep she doesnt startle herself awake.
